Space Samurai is a conceptual embodiment of both the future and the past, for the elements of a pair of samurai’s sandals - the socks and cord. The upper of the Space Samurai utilizes an elegant origami patterned BioKnit, a textile that I developed at RCA that is flexible and responds differently under different performance scenarios. A cord runs throughout the shoe for additional support and adds to the overall aesthetic of the shoe. Finally, a carbon fiber shank referencing the shape of the sandals’ outsole was added to the midsole for stability.
